A good meal replacement smoothie rarely happens by accident. Those runny chocolate milk wannabe mixes won't tide me over until lunch. I prefer a thick milkshake style meal that I can sip slowly.  To save time, I pre-mix the dry ingredients and store them in pint size mason jars.  In the morning, I dump it in the blender along with the wet ingredients and get going on my day.  It's like storing extra dinners in the freezer, except these go in the pantry.

I sneak a boatload of supplements, dried fruit, vegetables and greens in there. 🥬   When I use the jars, the chances of anyone noticing "green things" go way down.  Even if you don't have to sneak the veggies past your family, it's worth the time savings.

Every ingredient has a purpose.   Of course flavor is important, but so is nutrition, and texture.  Once I get a good combination, I mix them up in batches.  I started with 6 jars; these days, I make 21 at a time.

Here are a few bulk smoothie storage tips:
  • Measure the combined dry ingredients so you know what size jar to use for the number of servings you make.
  • Use mylar bags to take smoothies with you on the road
  • Keep a backup jar in another location for emergencies
  • Buy ingredients in bulk
  • Make sure your jars are dry before adding ingredients
For daily use, I have a Vitamix and store my two serving mixes in pint size mason jars.  Half pint jars work great for one serving.
I use the white plastic lids for short term use.  You could also use the jar adapter on a bag sealer for long term storage with the traditional canning lids.

✈️  When I travel, I bring a battery operated blender.  I "pre-powder" the supplements in my Vitamix.  Glass jars are breakable and heavy, so I switch to mylar bags.  If I expect to go through security, I make sure to create a food label for my mylar bags.  No one wants to miss their flight explaining "unlabeled powder" to the TSA agent right? 🤣
Start small and slowly experiment with more to see what you can get away with.

Here's a video I did that shows more about what I include in my jars.
