As I write this, there are horrific things happening to good people in Afghanistan. I try and balance the tragedy by thinking about it from a spiritual perspective.
I know that God both grieves and demands justice. While we don't know His specific plans, we know He wants people to come to Him, including the "bad guys."  He is doing things behind the scenes and is more creative and less predictable than a Hollywood scriptwriter. Even better, God has a way of turning the enemy's actions around into something good. Joseph recognized this in the book of Genesis. After his brothers sold him into slavery, he suffered injustice, imprisonment, and false accusations. These things served a purpose in the long run.
God moves through people, whether we are on our knees in prayer or meeting needs in person.

I've learned that God's plans are usually worked out in a timeframe that is much longer than I would imagine or choose. Yes, some people suffer and die. There is an enemy coming against God and His people, but God wins in the end.  We can't comprehend the complexity of all the moving parts, so we trust the character of God.
The church in Afghanistan is the second fastest growing church in the world, right behind the church in Iran. It is always amazing to me that in areas of persecution, the church always grows.  These believers develop a deep and powerful faith, the kind of faith that they will give their life for. When God's people have that kind of faith, He does amazing things.
In the book of Acts, Christians were persecuted, and they ended up scattering everywhere. What happened? Their faith went with them. They shared it everywhere. And that is exactly what's happening now. As the underground church in Afghanistan is persecuted, some are martyred and promoted to eternal glory. Some are escaping. Those that make it out are scattering to the nations around them.  These very, very strong Christians take their faith with them, and the gospel is being spread in places where it normally would not go. God takes this horrific act from the enemy and turns it around in his face. And that is satisfying to think about.
